Pipeline struck by construction equipment leaks crude oil

BISMARCK, N.D. — The North Dakota Department of Health says it has been notified of a pipeline leak in McKenzie County four miles southwest of Watford City that spilled more than 9,000 gallons of crude oil.

The department says that the pipeline owned by American Midstream (Bakken) LLC leaked 9,450 gallons after it was struck by construction equipment.

The information reported to the health department says that the spill was contained within the limits of the excavation, and that the oil and contaminated soil has been removed.

The department is investigating.
